Rants and Recommendations

Good Whatever Time You Happen to be Reading This!

Welcome to my latest foray into the realm of blogging. As a “freelance writer” (I’m also a grad student and part time college instructor, so don’t be too unimpressed), I contribute to such remarkable, badass and charmingly seductive sites as BeatCrave.com, GamerCrave.com, ScreenCrave.com, WeekInRewind.com, and Cracked.com. I’m also “Executive Editor” (aka “Chief in Charge of Coming Up With Three Humor Articles a Week”) at EvilChili.com

Business cards are on their way.

I’ve been meaning to start a personal blog for some time now, but for various reasons (I can’t think of a theme involving Julia Childs or testing happiness theories or raising two bipolar children while also going to law school and training for a marathon or some such, I spend enough time as it is writing, I’m not in high school anymore so I don’t think that my friends will read it, and so on), I have put it off.

Well, I’m gonna give this another go, mainly because I’ve been reading David Cross’s constantly entertaining I Drink for a Reason and it has reminded me that it can be a lot of fun to simply purge your thoughts on paper (or a computer screen, as it were).

See what I just did there? I recommended a book. And I’ll be doing that a lot–recommending books, movies, music, my own articles, etc. I’ll also be ranting about topics you don’t care about, like my inability to devote myself to a definable political category, my thoughts on religion, my attempts to become more successful at every thing I do, ever…you get the picture.

So, thank you for stopping by. Pour yourself a drink, relax, continue performing house-guest related metaphors, and enjoy.

Peace.

wadeve u wrote on clarkson’s article, u stated her music is not to “our” liking. but she delivers it with style. who’s the ‘our’ here? because I think you’re being disrespectful. as a freelance writer or whatsoever, you failed.

The “our” to which I was referring was the collective opinion/stance of BeatCrave. Granted, I am no more than a news writer for the site, but as the piece in question was not an editorial, I adhered to the traditional rules of journalism and stuck to first-person plural pronouns.

As far as me being disrespectful goes, well, you are entitled to your opinion, but I’m not sure how it is “disrespectful” to take issue with the fact that, sure, Clarkson may have vocal talent, but she uses that talent to sing generic pop songs that offer nothing in the way of insight or lasting value. There are plenty of artists out there creating truly moving music; it isn’t disrespectful to express the opinion that she is not one of those artists.

Also, the correct spelling is “you,” not “u.” On top of that, I believe you meant “whatever,” rather than “whatsoever.” And finally, my best guess is that “wadeve” is supposed to substitute the word “whatever.” I can see why you went for the shortened version of that word; those extra two letters would have taken far too long to type. As a person who uses the English language, you have failed remarkably.
